Selection process

3 stages, one window a year

What happens at each stage, and what it asks of you. Published detail and our own preparation advice are kept in separate boxes throughout — never merged.

  1. 01

    Online application

    During the windowOur analysis

A single application with written responses, submitted through ADB's own recruitment system.

    What is published

    • One window each year, with no off-cycle submissions.

How to prepare — our advice

    • Write the responses against ADB's operating model specifically. A generic multilateral-bank answer is visible immediately.
  2. 02

    Written assessment

    DecemberOur analysis

A timed written exercise testing analytical reasoning applied to a development case.

    What is published

    • The exercise is case-based rather than a general aptitude test.

How to prepare — our advice

    • Practise structuring a recommendation under time pressure. Most candidates run out of time before reaching one.
  3. 03

    Panel interview

    January to FebruaryOur analysis

A panel drawn from operations departments, covering technical depth and motivation.

    What is published

    • Panels usually include staff from the departments likely to host a rotation.

How to prepare — our advice

    • Be able to describe one project you worked on in financial and operational terms in under two minutes.

Always verify the current requirements and dates on the organisation's own website before acting on anything here.

No preparation service can promise, guarantee or imply selection. These programmes are highly competitive and outcomes depend on the applicant pool and factors outside any candidate's control.
